A SHOPPING centre is continuing to meet high standards for work to reduce its impact on the environment.

The Mall Barnsley has had its Carbon Trust Standard certification renewed.

To achieve the standard, an applicant must achieve a 2.5 per cent carbon reduction year-on-year for three years.

When The Mall’s portfolio was first awarded the accreditation in 2008, it achieved nearly 12 per cent. Since 2008, it has reduced its carbon requirement by over 8 per cent.

Mark Broadhead, general manager at The Mall, said: “We are committed to working with our shoppers and retailers to improve our sustainability credentials. It is vitally important that we lead the shopping industry to ensure we a reduce our environmental impact to benefit future generations.”
