Man mountain Mark Labbett will get quizzical at the start of the Sheffield Half Marathon by firing the starter pistol.
The 6ft 6in quiz genius, who is best known from TV show The Chase, will encourage and cheer on runners at the event on Sunday. April 6.
Mark, nicknamed The Beast, said: “The Chase isn’t just a quiz – it’s a race, too, where the contestants must avoid being caught by me or one of my quiz colleagues.
“I’m really looking forward to a different sort of race with the Sheffield Half Marathon and pleased to be involved with an event that raises money for so many worthy local good causes.”
Margaret Lilley, race organising committee chairman, said: “We wanted a larger-than-life personality to start our event for us and we have got just that in Mark – a powerhouse, with an intellect to match his stature.
“He hates to lose on The Chase so we’re sure he will bring a fair amount of competitiveness and positive spirit to proceedings.”
Mark recently moved from Newport in South Wales to Moorgate, Rotherham, to continue his work with, and support for, Redtooth in Barlborough, the country’s leading provider of entertainment to the pub industry.
He is tasked with writing new quiz questions and helping the company promote new events around the country.
There is still time to enter the half marathon, which is one of the biggest road races on the Sheffield sporting calendar and attracts runners of all ages and abilities from all over the country.
