A police appeal has been issued after an elderly man was robbed and left injured.

A 75-year-old had withdrawn a large amount of money at Woodseats Post Office in Chesterfield Road on April 1 at about 11.20am.

He was then approached after crossing into Tadcaster Road by a man who asked for the time.

When he looked at his watch, the offender then slipped his hand into the man’s pocket.

The pensioner then grabbed the man’s hand and the two fell to the floor.

In the ensuing struggle the victim was left with bruising to his ribs and his jacket was torn.

The offender then made off with the man’s wallet along Tadcaster Road and into Tadcaster Crescent.

South Yorkshire Police have released this CCTV image which they say may hold ‘vital’ information for their investigation.
