The funeral service for Greystones author JP Bean is taking place at Sheffield Cathedral.

The writer, who was rock singer Joe Cocker’s official biographer, died suddenly aged 66. The memorial service is on Monday at 10.45am.

JP - whose real name was Julian Broadhead - was also well-known for his history of the Sheffield Gang Wars and his book about folk music, Singing From The Floor.

Singer-songwriter Richard Hawley was among those who paid tribute last week following the writer’s death.

“I feel utterly heartbroken, he was a really massive influence on me,” said Richard.
