Cash boost for groups
VOLUNTEERS and staff at two Sheffield organisations are celebrating after scooping grants of £10,000 each from the Big Lottery Fund.
IBK Initiatives, which works with disabled young people and their families at Aizlewood's Mill, Nursery Street, off the Wicker, is among 24 beneficiaries from the fund's Awards for All programme.
Also to benefit is the new Burngreave Youth Development Centre, which will use the money towards setting up the project - which will provide social activities for young people in order to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Welcoming the cash boost, David Blunkett, MP for Brightside and Hillsborough, said: "Of course, this money cannot replace what is being pulled by the Government and the council.
"However, it is a recognition of the willingness of people locally to help themselves - and the determination in our community to stand by young people as they try and do a good job of self-help."
