BUDDING sporting stars hoping to follow in the footsteps of Olympic heroes have been given a cash boost.
Sheffield International Venues has donated £2,000 to the City of Sheffield Diving Club, hailed as the next generation of Olympic talent.
The money was raised at the company’s annual awards evening, which saw chief executive Steve Brailey, left, and other members of the management team dive from Ponds Forge’s 10m diving board.
The cash will ensure the club can continue its coaching programme and develop members divers into the next Nick Robinson-Baker or Monique Gladding, who qualified for London 2012.
Mr Brailey said: “This donation will go toward the diving club’s project DNA 2020 - Discover, Nuture and Achieve, which is about creating the best coaching and development programme for diving talent in the UK.
“The money raised will help bring more people onto the Talent Identification Programme.”
