A CAMPAIGN to raise cash for a new sports hall roof in Sheffield has been awarded nearly £28,000 through landfill tax credits and from a local trust.
High Green Development Trust received the cash from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the Landfill Communities Fund and Sheffield Town Trust.
The Trust, which manages Paces Campus where the sports hall is based, now needs to raise another £7,000 to get the roof fitted.
“Over 1,000 people use the campus every week and most of them use it for sports activity,” said enterprise project manager Steve Barnard.
“Once we have raised all the money it will mean we will not have to cancel sessions because it is raining. Getting the roof fixed will benefit all local people as it means a vital community resource is saved. We have ambitions to link with the nearby Thorncliffe Recreation Ground and Chapeltown swimming baths to create a health and recreation plan for the area.
“We still need to secure additional funds and are busy seeking the money.”
