A car found abandoned on Mosborough Parkway, Sheffield, had been stolen from Chesterfield, police have revealed.
The Audi TT Quatro was found dumped over the weekend after being stolen from Handley Road, New Whittington.
The vehicle was taken between 12.30am and 7.40am on Saturday, after the house it was parked outside was broken into.
The burglar stoke the keys to the car and a handbag containing bank cards and cash, which had been left downstairs when the owners returned from a night out.
Police have also revealed that an Audi A4 was stolen from Silver Well Drove, Staveley, near Chesterfield, over the weekend, after another house was broken into.
The keys to two vehicles were stolen along with two iPads and a watch.
The break-in occurred between 12.10am and 6am on Saturday.
The vehicle stolen during the raid has not yet been tracked down by police, who are searching for it.
Detectives investigating both incidents want to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious or knows who was involved.
