Carnival atmosphere takes Pride of place - PICTURES
THEY may have needed umbrellas to shelter from the odd shower but that didn't stop anybody at Sheffield Pride.
A carnival atmosphere descended on Endcliffe Park as the city's biggest ever lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender festival got under way.
Organisers say 5,500 people joined in the party with coachloads arriving from Manchester, Leeds and Derby.
The headline act on stage was Scooch but there was also plenty of music by Sheffield bands and singers to entertain revellers.
Darren Hopkinson, who helped organise the event, said despite rain earlier on there had been sunshine for most of the day.
"It was a fantastic atmosphere. Scooch were amazing and went down really well with the crowd," he said.
"We had a lot of positive feedback. The beer tent sold out of on four occasions and we had to get more beer in!"
A huge array of musical talent was on offer on the main stage throughout the afternoon including Smokers Die Younger, Gill Coope and the Leather Chaps, Lemon Tear Gas, Darlings of the Splitscreen and Sheffield choir Out Aloud.
The official after-party Pride Goes Poptastic was held at Sheffield Hallam University Union on Paternoster Row with almost 800 people packed in.
