A car stolen in Sheffield was found abandoned after a police chase.

The red Mini was stolen after a burglary in Chambers Valley Road, Chapeltown, three weeks ago.

It was spotted by officers on patrol yesterday afternoon, and was found to have been fitted with false number plates.

They began following the car in the area around the Magna visitor attraction in Rotherham, but the driver and passenger got away and the Mini was later found abandoned in Raby Street, Tinsley, Sheffield.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The driver decided not to stop and a pursuit took place in the Magna area of Rotherham before it was abandoned and recovered.

"The driver took risks which the police pursuit driver was not willing to do, so by the time we found the vehicle the driver and passenger had made good their escape.
