Police are appealing for information after a car was torched in a suspected arson attack in north Derbyshire.

Officers believe the culprits set the Suzuki Vitara on fire in Hathersage sometime between 10pm on Wednesday, February 10, and 6am on Thursday, February 12.

The car was parked just off the A6187 between Bamford and Hathersage, known locally as the Hathersage Straight, when it was set on fire.

Firefighters in Derbsyhire also believe that a fire at a skate park in Chesterfield was also started deliberately.

A fire crew from Chesterfield station was called to the skate park on Derby Walk in the town, at 7.48pm on Wednesday.

When they arrived they discovered a small fire which they extinguished using a backpack and buckets of water.

Firefighters were at the skate park for around 30 minutes.

n Anyone with any information about the car fire, or who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area, is urged to contact PC Paul Hawkins at Derbsyhire Constabulary on 101, quoting crime number 6383/15. Alternatively witnesses can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
