Police found bags of cannabis in a car abandoned by a driver who jumped into a canal in Sheffield to escape.

Officers followed a silver Vauxhall Astra which failed to stop for officers overnight.

South Yorkshire Police said the driver abandoned the car and jumped in a canal to avoid capture.

His passenger remained in the vehicle and was arrested at the scene.

Officers seized a number of bags of cannabis from the car.

They are now looking for the driver.
