A festive appeal backed by The Star has raised more than £20,000 for cancer patients in Sheffield.
The Christmas Star appeal was held in aid of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, and people were urged to make donations in return for special silver star-shaped tree decorations.
In total the appeal raised more than £23,000, which will go towards cancer research and up-to-date treatments.
More than 500 people also sent in tributes and messages, which are being displayed in a special book in the hospital’s main reception.
The charity set up an online tribute wall where people can leave their personal message of support and donate online.
Fundraiser Helen Gentle said: “We have been overwhelmed by the fantastic response to our Christmas Star Appeal and are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported it.
“The funds raised will make a big difference to cancer patients in this area and will give more families the chance of spending many more magical Christmases together.
“From all of us at the charity we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.”
Weston Park Hospital is one of only four dedicated cancer hospitals in England and provides cancer care to a population of nearly 1.8 million people across the region.
The appeal, sponsored by law firm Irwin Mitchell, has also been supported by staff and patients.
