A true Sheffield pie isn’t complete without a dash of Henderson’s Relish - and people who add the spicy sauce to their meals as part of The Star’s Great Pie and Peas Up campaign will be helping hospice patients in the process.
Sauce manufacturer Henderson’s has stepped in for the second year running to create a special limited edition commemorative bottle to celebrate the appeal.
The Star is urging readers to hold pie and pea suppers throughout March to raise money for a new inpatient unit at St Luke’s Hospice in Whirlow.
Together with readers’ help, we have pledged to raise £100,000 towards the £5m cost of the unit - and there is still just under £50,000 left to collect.
Five pence from the sale of every special Henderson’s bottle - on sale across the city, from major supermarket chains to corner shops - will go directly to the campaign.
“We know how popular the special bottles were last year and that for real fans they became a sought-after collector’s item,” said hospice spokesman Ceri James.
“We are delighted that, once again, a great Sheffield institution has stepped in to support us and we hope this year’s new label design will prove to be even more popular.”
Events can be held anywhere, with a suggested donation of £10 per guest.
