Campaigner protest over Palestinian deaths

PEACE campaigners gathered outside Sheffield Town Hall with a small coffin and placards listing the names of 34 Palestinians, including children, who they say have died as the result of an Isreali siege of the Gaza strip.

The demonstration was held by Sheffield Palestinian Solidarity Campaign as part of an international wave of protests - which has included calls for international action by the Red Cross.

There is concern that Palestinians are unable to leave to access medical treatment and that urgent medical supplies cannot get through to hospitals in the territory.

Hilary Smith, of the Sheffield campaign group, said: "Most of the dead, many of whom are young people, are cancer patients or kidney patients needing dialysis. Drugs to treat these patients have completely run out in Gaza and patients are now dying on a daily basis."
