WORK to promote a Europe-wide emergency number has led to an award for a former Euro MP for South Yorkshire.
Diana Wallis campaigned to raise awareness of Europe-wide emergency number 112.
She is to receive the Category of Outstanding Political Initiative gong, presented by the European Emergency Number Association in the Latvian capital, Riga.
In 2011, Diana launched a campaign enlisting the support of airlines and ferry companies routing from the UK to continental Europe, asking them to inform their passengers about the 112 number.
By Easter she had been joined by companies including Easyjet, BA, P&O, BMI and Thomson who in different ways promoted the number when they did not before.
