Calls for South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright to ‘consider his position’ over the sex abuse scandal have been made.

Coun Colin Ross, leader of Sheffield’s Liberal Democrat party, said: “Shaun Wright was in charge of children’s services at Rotherham Council as a councillor and also sat on the South Yorkshire Police Authority when both organisations knew about the level of child sexual exploitation, but chose not to do anything about it.

“It’s difficult to see how people can have confidence in him to continue.”

UKIP MEP Jane Collins called for everyone involved in the case to step down.
