It might be months away but already a charity has issued a call to arms for residents of South Yorkshire to spread the joy this Christmas.
The Samaritan’s Purse is appealing for help to make this year’s Operation Christmas Child the biggest and best yet.
People in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster are being invited to start filling shoeboxes with gifts, which will be shipped to children in disadvantaged countries.
The charity is also recruiting volunteers to help wrap and process the packages.
Ian Macleod, South Yorkshire’s manager of Samaritan’s Purse, said: “Getting involved in Operation Christmas Child, wrapping and packing shoeboxes, can be such fun and is always hugely rewarding. Every year we see people organising their work colleagues, teachers working with parents and schoolchildren and churches inviting their communities to get involved.”
