A councillor has written to the chief of British Transport Police over the ‘heavy-handed treatment’ of pensioners at Sheffield railway station.
Coun Caven Vines, Rotherham Council UKIP member for Rawmarsh, has asked Chief Superintendent Peter Holden for an explanation and inquiry after travel protestors were controversially arrested.
Freedom Ride protestors Tony Nuttall and George Arthur have been charged with failure to pay and obstructing police.
Coun Vines said: “I do not support anybody breaking the law in any way and my concerns are not with any arrests of anyone in breach of law.
“My concern is solely to do with the heavy-handed way officers executed their duty which I believe ended in a number of injuries.”
