Volunteers are being urged to help avoid the kind of flooding which hit Sheffield seven years ago.

The Environment Agency is teaming up with the River Stewardship Company to improve flood resilience in several areas – and people are being asked to lend a hand on volunteer days between now and July.

The groups also want to create more flood wardens in Sheffield, as there are only two groups in the city.

Lizzy Haynes, agency flood risk management officer, said: “Flood wardens play a vital role within flood risk management.

“They act as our eyes and ears in areas at risk from flooding, keeping our incident rooms updated on the situation in their area.”
