Residents have raised concerns over anti-social behaviour near Doncaster Museum.
The issue has prompted complaints to South Yorkshire Police.
Residents say nuisance is being caused in an alleyway between the museum and the neighbouring Chequer Road clinic.
It was raised at a meeting between residents and police.
Officers say they are going to make dealing with the problem one of the priorities for the Doncaster central safer neighbourhood team.
A spokesman said staff from the team have been in the area conducting high-visibility patrols of the area since the matter was raised.
Chequer Road is close to the town centre and attracts many visitors during the day because of museum and the borough’s art gallery.
It is home to items including Roman relics dating back more than 1,000 years.
