SHEFFIELD air cadets were a storming success when they competed against youngsters from other squadrons in their annual athletics event.

The 20 entrants from 366 King Ecgbert Squadron, based at Bailey Barracks, Greenhill, came away with two group trophies and 15 individual medals after the contest in Leeds.

Mike Hiley, spokesman for the squadron, said: “Our team had a very successful day. In the 16 to 17-year-olds male group, the team managed to come third, while the senior girls’ group for 15 years and older came first in their category.

“Cadets Alex Bridgwater and Olivia Earls came first in high jump and javelin, cadet Danni Bosworth came second in the 400m and cadet sergeant Jess Pearson finished second in long jump and third in the 100m.”

Overall the squadron was placed fifth out of 33.
