It’s all looking very local indeed at Sheffield’s first micropub, which is set to open on Ecclesall Road this week.

The pub will sell local ales and drinks, offer games of chess and backgammon as well as ‘convivial conversation’ in a former E-cigarette shop near Hunters Bar roundabout.

It houses 40 customers and could be full rapidly, as it is opening at noon on Sunday to coincide with the popular Sharrowvale Christmas market.

“If that’s a problem it’s a problem I’m happy to have!”, joked John Harrison, who is to run the venture with Dronfield pub landlord Chris Sinclair.

Plans were approved by the city council in October.

Wines for the pub have been sourced locally, from shop Starmoreboss on Sharrowvale Road, with ales from local breweries. Organic rioja and other more unusual drinks are also on the menu.

John added: “We are very much excited, it has taken a long time to get to this point.”
