Warning ahead of jobs boom

RECRUITMENT experts have predicted a boom in employment across South Yorkshire over the next five years.

Specialists from Rotherham-based Elevation say a £65m cash injection from the Regional Growth Fund will see the county become one of the biggest employment hubs in the UK over the next five years, with hundreds of jobs created in Sheffield.

But they have warned that employers must focus on skills to maximise the longevity of their workforce.

Greg Parkinson, a managing director at Elevation, said: “Although this investment represents a huge opportunity for South Yorkshire businesses to expand their workforces and recruit new staff, my concern is that employers will invest in staff which provide short term solutions to long term problems. Companies need to make concessions for the future to ensure investment works for them.”
