VIDEO: Star Readers’ Champion tour of Newsroom

MEET The Star’s Readers’ Champion Nancy Fielder!

Ever wondered how The Star’s top story of the day is picked – or wished you could have more say in your local paper?

Well, as your Readers’ Champion I’ll be opening up our newsroom and banishing those old newspaper myths.

We want you to be more involved in every aspect of news and sport, from the ideas to photographs, content to comments.

It is your Star and we want to hear your opinions.

The paper will be going through major improvements in the next few months so it is really important to us that all our readers are involved.

I will be sharing exactly what our team are discussing as well as giving you an insight into how it all works.

You’ll be able to follow how we develop stories from that first tip-off until it is laid out on the page ready to print.

You will get the chance to put your own questions to members of our reporting team as well as key writers from our sports desk.

There will also be an invite for you to come and voice your opinions in Sheffield Newspapers’ boardroom.

This will be through a series of focus groups we are hosting for readers to tell us how you think we’re doing and what we should be tackling differently.

But if you don’t want to wait, visit thestar.co.uk and watch my video tour of the newsroom.

It offers a quick introduction to a couple of our reporters as well as a peak at a front page and our picture desk.

One of the first big initiatives is a brand new Retro Club – find out how you can join and what’s on offer for members in tomorrow’s Retro.

It is my job to put you, our readers, first and in doing that make sure we’re playing more of a role in supporting Sheffield’s many communities.

That means different things to different people but if you want to be included all you have to do is speak up.

Help us play a bigger part in your neighbourhood and get your stories onto the pages of The Star when it matters most to you.

You will be able to keep in touch with what is going on through my weekly round-up every Friday in The Star.

So if you have an idea that you want to see in The Star then get in touch and let’s see what we can do.

You can get all the latest goings-on by following me on Twitter @starreaderschamp, visit The Star’s Facebook page or send me an email.

What this all means for you is better chances to comment, quicker ways to get your news as stories break across our digital platforms and more ways to get involved.

We’re excited by what else it will mean in the next few weeks, months and coming years.
