This Sheffield beauty salon has really nailed it – Halo Nails in Banner Cross has been named The Star’s Salon of the Year 2014.

The stylish nail bar impressed voters with its friendly and professional service from its premises on Ecclesall Road.

Owner Amy Oldale, who runs the salon with Bex Powls, was overwhelmed when she discovered they had won.

She said: “I can’t believe it. We never thought we’d win because there were some really big salons in the running.

“A big thank you has to go to all our clients and our families who have supported us from the beginning – if it wasn’t for them then we wouldn’t be here.”

Amy and Bex set up the salon in April 2012 and they have pampered the women – and men – of Sheffield ever since.

Amy, aged 38, said: “It’s going amazingly. I went into it knowing there was a recession and it was a risk, but it has paid off.

“We have an amazing and regular client base.

“Because there are only two of us we can give our clients one- on-one attention.”

Amy works in the salon full-time offering an extensive range of nail services, while beautician Bex works part-time with waxing, lashes, eye treatments and spray tanning among her repertoire.

Bex, 40, said: “We are quite different from other salons in that it’s all about the client and the service they get.

“We get to know them personally and they get to know us and they become returning clients.

“Sometimes you can go into salons and they are a bit impersonal.

“We feel you can relax here and have a bit of a time out. Clients can have a drink and there is no rush – it’s an experience.”

Amy and Bex were presented with a plaque to commemorate their award, which will now take pride of place in their salon.
