Hundreds of local authority workers marched through Doncaster town cnetre today as part of their campaign against austerity measures.
They later gathered outside the Council House in Sir Nigel Gresley Square for a rally.
Uinson officer Ashley Harper said 75 per cent of staff had stayed away form the Council House for the one-day strike and most of the 500 workers at the North Bridge depot were out.
More days of action are planned in Septembver if the Local Government Association does not change their stance.
Doncaster Council confirmed 68 schools and 24 academies will be closed or partially closed because of the strike action. Teachers are protesting against workloads, pay and pensions cuts.
In total six unions – the National Union of Teachers, the Public and Commercial Services union, which represents civil servants, the Fire Brigades Union and three council unions – Unison, Unite and the GMB – came out on strike until midnight.
