Trio succeed in growth stakes
THREE South Yorkshire companies have been named among the 100 British companies with the fastest-growing profits.
Rotherham-based Maplin Electronics, Abbey Stainless Steels and A4e from Sheffield all secured places in the latest Sunday Times PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 listing.
Maplin sells a range of 15,000 electronic and related products to tech-savvy hobbyists as well as general consumers.
The company is appearing in the listing for the third year running and secured 46th place after increasing profits by more than 60 per cent over the last three years to 22 million.
Abbey Stainless, part of the Abbey Group, whose interests include forging, metal testing, treatment and machining and stainless steel supply, is one place below Maplin, after increasing profits by just under 60 per cent to 3.3 million.
A4e, whose services span Services span employment, education, enterprise and tackling social exclusion, was placed 83rd after profits rose by 46 per cent to 8.2
Arif Ahmad, partner and head of PwC's entrepreneurs and private company team in the North East, said: "It is great to see local privately-owned companies delivering making such a positive contribution to the economy.
"The Northeast is showing how private companies can drive regional economic growth and development."
