A hairdresser has celebrated 25 years in the businesses by raising more than £1,000 for charity.

Michelle Downing, owner of A Cut of Class, held an open day at her salon on St Lawrence Road in Tinsley for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

The event, which raised £1,029.21, was in memory of family and friends who have had cancer including Kim Fox, a former hairdresser who worked with Michelle and died in May.

Michelle, aged 47, of Handsworth, said: “The salon has undergone a major refurbishment and the open day was part of our 25 year celebration as a thank you to all our customers, family and friends for their support in making the business a great success.

“All customers were invited – new and old – to the grand opening day, where we had a fundraising raffle which included many prizes generously donated by local businesses and the community.”
