Talks on taxi fare increase
A BID to increase black cab fares by 20p per mile will be formally considered by Sheffield Council’s licensing board next week.
Councillors will decide whether to approve a request by Hafeas Rehman, chairman of Sheffield Taxi Trade Association, to allow the rise due to spiralling fuel costs.
The request will mean average fares rise from £1.53 per mile to £1.73 per mile, plus an initial fee of £2.60 in the day and £3.10 at night.
Current fares came into effect in October, when there was a 10p increase on the initial fee.
The application by Sheffield Taxi Trade Association will be heard on Thursday April 7.

We now see these drivers shouting on a Friday afternoon outside our town hall. Why dont they go back to their countries that they keep mouthing about and earn the money they make here. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 12:43 PMI live on a quite well known road, but I always have to guide the taxi drivers, because they don't know where it is, (private and black cabs) unless its the odd white guy, they tend to know. Go to London, they know every back street and its a million times bigger than Sheffield. If you pakistani taxi drivers do a better job you can charge more, but you are useless.
