South Yorks leads way in 3-D field

The opportunities offered by 3-D technology will be the focus for Sheffield's contribution to Yorkshire's Digital Week, which starts on Monday November 9.

Seminars on the role of 3-D technology in architecture, gaming, photography and cinema are being held at The Workstation and Showroom Cinema, in Sheffield's Creative Industries Quarter.

The Week will also feature a free seminar covering everything digital businesses need to know about software patents, at Electric Works and a seminar on how to protect and grow a digital business at the Workstation and Showroom.

Bill Lawrence, creative director at the Showroom and Workstation, said: "Although it's been a tough few months for many industries operating in a tough financial climate, it is the creative and new media sector that has continued to grow.

"In particular, South Yorkshire is leading the way in 3D design techniques. Digital Week is our chance to both showcase and celebrate South Yorkshire's continuing role as a key creative hub."

Speakers at the Sheffield events will include Dr Karl Barnfather, a senior partner at patent attorneys Withers and Rogers, who have offices in Electric Works, as well as in London, Bristol and Leamington Spa.
