Meadowhall revamp
Sheffield-based Birley Manufacturing played a major part in the refurbishmento f Meadowhall's Oasis food court.
Diners in Meadowhall’s newly refurbished Oasis food court are guaranteed a “Made in Sheffield” experience.
Owners British Land asked Contractor of the Year McLaren to use a local Sheffield company to supply components when they carried out the £400,000 refurbishment.
The construction, property and interiors company had no hesitation in picking Birley Vale Avenue-based Birley Manufacturing.
Matt Woods, senior project manager for retail contracts at Birley, said: “This was a very exciting project for us, one we are very proud to be involved with as we won this project totally on merit.
“McLaren had seen our work with Waitrose and when the British Land Company requested a Sheffield-based company to complete the work, McLaren came to us.”
Birley, which was founded almost 140 years ago, invited McLaren’s head of design and development, Philip Bellman, to visit its purpose-built factory in Sheffield and see its manufacturing team in action
Convinced that Birley could fulfil the brief, McLaren gave the go-ahead for the company to develop a range of bespoke items for the food court, including dividing walls with cedar cladding and fixed seating.
Birley’s manufacturing team worked for more than 2,000 hours on the Oasis project and its installations team was on-site for four months, carrying out a three-part installation.
Managing director Steve English said: “We are a proud Sheffield company and it was wonderful to be involved in a project on our own doorstep.
“Meadowhall is a fantastic local landmark and we are happy to have helped with its refurbishment.”
