Sheffield shoppers in the market for fresh food

SHEFFIELD shoppers prefer buying fresh food from city centre markets – according to Sheffield Council survey.

Just over 800 people were questioned, and 64 per cent told researchers they visit the market to buy fruit and veg, while more than a third visit the market’s butchers, cheesemongers and bakers.

The survey was designed to help Sheffield Markets decide what shoppers should be able to buy in the new Moor Market.

As a result, more than half the 195 new stalls have been reserved for food, including fish, meat, dairy and delicatessen, with the remainder for general retail traders.

The Moor Market is expected to open on November 4.
