Sheffield jobs lost as firm goes into administration

All but 12 staff at the Sheffield operations of international plant dismantling and decommissioning specialist EDS have been made redundant by administrators from accountants BDO.

The news follows BDO’s announcement it had succeeded in saving more than 550 jobs by selling three divisions of EDS, which was acquired by the now-collapsed Silverdell group in 2012.

BDO has now confirmed 93 EDS staff have been made redundant, most of them in Loxley Manor, Sheffield.

The administrators said: “Regrettably, it has been necessary to make 93 redundancies, most of which – though not all - were staff based in Sheffield. Twelve employees have been retained while the joint administrators seek a buyer for the business, assets and contracts of the division.”
