Sheffield fury at fuel tax plans
Government plans to raise fuel duty by 2p a litre have sparked anger among members of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.
More members of the Sheffield Chamber have signed a national protest letter, calling on the Government to scrap the increase, than any other chamber in the country.
The Chamber says the increase could cost the haulage industry 170 million.
Sheffield Chamber policy and representation manager Helen Rana said: "The message being sent from Government to our logistics industry is worrying, and it's clear from Sheffield Chamber members' record response that this is not just a national issue – it is potentially a huge concern for members across our city business region.
"We now hope the opposition of large numbers of Chamber members across Britain will encourage further discussion."
