new jobs are being created with the opening of a £5 million technical facility by Doncaster rope manufacturers Bridon International.

The new facility at the Balby Carr Bank site is aimed at encouraging international companies to do business in the area.

Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton officially opened the Bridon Technology Centre, touring the facility’s laboratories and test bay with Bridon chief executive Jon Templeman.

BTC, which will design and test some of the largest ropes in the world, is thought to be one of the most advanced facilities of its kind ever commissioned.

Bridon has invested £5 million in the facility’s custom-made testing and analysis equipment, which will evaluate rope constructions for their suitability for use in punishing conditions – enabling the development of increasingly sophisticated ropes to meet the needs of customers across a range of industry sectors.

The centre is set to create five new skilled positions, and support the work of Bridon’s global production capability including the Doncaster Wire Mill, where the company recently invested another £5 million in high-tech equipment upgrades.

It will also afford Bridon the opportunity to work with customers on selected technical projects, hosting collaborations that could bring a range of international companies to Doncaster.

Mr Templeman said: “BTC will be a high-tech hub for next generation rope development, where the finest minds in rope technology use sophisticated testing equipment to validate the designs of the largest and most complex ropes ever made.

“This state of the art facility will enable us to develop and test ropes that perform at the highest levels in the harshest conditions on earth, and to collaborate with our customers on tailored solutions to the toughest challenges they face.”
