RiO gives firm carnival feeling

A health care IT specialist from the Sheffield region has completed a groundbreaking deal with a leading NHS Trust.

Eckington-based CSE Healthcare Systems clinched the deal with Bradford District Care Trust under the Government's Additional Supply Capability and Capacity scheme.

The scheme was introduced in a bid to plug the gaps left by contractors failing to come up with promised software as part of the NHS's National Programme for IT (NPfIT).

CSE Healthcare Systems has already helped leading telecommunications group and NPfIT lead contractor BT to successfully fill a major gap in London after one of BT's suppliers proved unable to provide functioning software when it was needed.

Since then it has been named and appointed a national supplier for systems for NHS staff dealing with everything from patient administration to electronic prescribing and health services for people with mental problems, children and the elderly to patient screening.

Now the company has successfully completed the installation of its RiO healthcare system to provide Bradford District Care Trust with a single source of clinical information covering the Bradford, Airedale and Craven area of West Yorkshire.

The Trust is one of only five in the UK providing specialist help and support to people with mental health problems and learning disabilities

Its head of information, Tony Middleton, said the Trust was convinced CSE Healthcare Systems RiO system was the right choice, following a rigorous procurement exercise.

"The Intuitive user interface and flexible approach to information gathering and reporting proved to be a winning formula for both our clinicians and corporate management teams. RiO has enabled us to meet all of our current information needs and has provided the trust with a robust platform to move towards Foundation Trust Status."

More than 50,000 clinicians across the UK use CSE Healthcare Systems products and the introduction of the RiO system in London and the south of England was one of the largest undertaken as part of the NHS's National Programme for IT.
