Print finishing company Prolam Rotherham is hoping to boost business for itself and local printers by encouraging one of the world’s leading magazine publishers to bring some of its game fishing and boating magazines to Britain.

The Dinnington firm is trying to capitalise on contacts made by directors Paul and Eric Blanksby when they competed in the inaugural International Game Fishing Association world offshore fishing championship, in Baha, California, which was sponsored by the Bonnier magazine group.

Paul Blanksby, who came ninth out of 268 competitors in a sport traditionally dominated by Americans, said: “We are confident this will pay dividends in business growth in the future, helping to bring business both to Prolam and other businesses in the area.”

Prolam says Bonnier’s sport fishing and boating magazines are currently printed in the US and continental Europe, but it believes there is a market in the UK among enthusiasts who currently get the magazines from abroad. Thanks to the contacts Paul and Eric Blanksby have made with the publisher through the competitions they have taken part in, Prolam hopes to persuade Bonnier to print some magazines for the British market in Rotherham.

“We are still talking to them about getting some of the magazines from Europe printed here and we would finish them,” said Paul Blanksby, who will be competing in the Marlin World Cup and South Indian Ocean Billfish competition in Maurituis next month as part of a drive to qualify for this year’s world championship.

Prolam’s service for the print industry include print lamination, die cutting, varnishing, embossing and other print finishing activities.
