Preview: The Star Business Awards 2010 - VIDEO

THE Star Business Awards 2010 are underway - to celebrate success in the Sheffield region, including the whole of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

A total of 14 awards will honour individual entrepreneurs, new businesses, innovation and international success.

Sheffield's newest gem, the rejuvenated Crucible Theatre and the redesigned Tudor Square, have been chosen as the venue for the inaugural awards gala dinner, on Monday, September 27.

After the meal, sponsors, guests and short-listed finalists will gather in the main auditorium to hear guest speaker Lord Digby Jones, one of the UK's most influential business leaders, then see awards presented to companies and individuals from across the region who have shown themselves to be leaders in their fields.

Headline sponsor is leading commercial law firm Nabarro, which is also sponsoring the Property Award.

"The Sheffield region has long lacked a means of recognising and celebrating the successes of its business community," said John Furbisher, Acting Editor of The Star.

"Some locations have had their own awards, but the wider world sees us as a broader business region and so it is important that we have a means of showcasing the skills, innovation and reputation for quality of that broader business community on a global stage.

"Many remark that the region has been reluctant to boast of its business successes, but the time has come to do away with false modesty and celebrate the hard work and achievement of companies that have moved heaven and earth to survive and succeed despite the downturn.

"The Star Business Awards will enable us to do that for the first time and I would urge every business in the Sheffield, Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster and Rotherham region to take a long, hard look at its own achievements and consider submitting an entry for one of the award categories."

The Star Business Awards are open to any company with a principal trading address or registered office with one of the following post codes: S1-S79, S82-S99, DN1-DN13, DN23-DN30, DN38-DN39, DN41-DN99, DE45.

Companies can nominate themselves or clients for a Star Business Award by visiting the Awards website, where you will find more information and updates - www.thestar.co.uk/businessawards - and downloading an entry form.

The completed form, together with any supporting information, should be sent to Emma Angell, Regional Promotions Manager, Promotions Department, The Star, York Street, Sheffield, S1 1PU, in an envelope marked Business Awards Entry.

Entries should arrive by the close of business on Friday, August 6, 2010.
