Police called to Doncaster drivers’ picket line

striking lorry drivers caused a partial road closure near the Tesco distribution depot in Doncaster on Monday afternoon.

Police were called to Middle Bank after complaints that protestors on the picket line were obstructing lorry drivers entering or exiting the site.

A police spokesman said: “This breached the terms of reference that had been agreed between the protestors, depot staff and South Yorkshire Police, aimed at balancing the rights of all parties. The agreed terms state that to ensure a peaceful protest takes place, protestors must not obstruct the public highway or obstruct anyone who chooses to cross the picket line.

“After discussions with officers, today’s issue was resolved with no arrests made.
