Shopping mall bosses have celebrated a bumper festive period.
Barnsley’s Alhambra Shopping Centre welcomed 825,600 visitors through its doors during December - up 2.4 per cent on the same period last year.
The Cheapside space, home to stores such as Iceland, Next, Primark and TK Maxx, found late-night shopping events particularly popular in the build-up to Christmas.
Figures from the National Retail Traffic Index - which put the mall above the national average - have been hailed as proof online shopping is not having a negative impact on Barnsley shopper numbers.
Alhambra’s marketing manager, Steph Higham, said: “We are delighted with the latest figures, recording an above-average footfall for The Alhambra.
“We are also pleased with our popular Wednesday late night shopping, which showed figures up on 2012.”
