An appeal has been lodged against Sheffield Council’s decision to reject plans for a £10m Next Home store close to Meadowhall.
The Meadowhall appeal has been filed by British Land and argues the council’s claim the development would affect investor and retailer confidence in the city centre is wrong, as is the suggestion there are preferable sites available.
The appeal claims the proposed development would not cause ‘any material impact’ on confidence and is not contrary to Sheffield’s core strategy policy.
It states Next is committed to Sheffield city centre and the home and garden product range its Home store would sell is ‘complementary to the fashion-led offer in Sheffield city centre’.
Sheffield Council also argued there were more suitable sites.
But the appeal claims only the Meadowhall location meets Next’s requirements, because of the bulky goods it would sell.
