New fashion store to open in city centre

SHEFFIELD City Centre has received a major boost with the news that leading branded fashion retailer Republic Retail is to move in to the former Zavvi store at the top of Fargate.

Republic is planning to have the 13,027 sq ft store fitted out in time to open for Spring Bank Holiday.

Orchard Square Shopping Centre manager, Ken Hetherington, said: "We were all sad to see Zavvi close but this more than makes up for the loss and Republic will be a fantastic addition to the Square and city centre as a whole."

Republic's retail marketing manager, Sharon Poulter, said: "We're very excited to be opening a new flagship Republic store in Sheffield next month.

"After more than a decade in Meadowhall, we've already established a reputation as the destination for branded fashion, and as a key retailer in the City we're sure to have great success."

Sheffield City Council leader, Coun Paul Scriven, added: "This is great news for the city centre. The Council are working hard to bring shops back into use and to keep the city centre vibrant and attractive.

"Keeping this important location at the top of Fargate in use will not only help to the city centre but it also means more jobs for local people."
