Nab-bing national accolade

Law firm Nabarro has won a national accolade for its success in recruiting and training lawyers, for the third year running.

The firm, which has offices in Sheffield and London, retained the Best Undergraduate Vacation Programme Award and also won the Best Student Marketing Campaign Award at the TARGET National Graduate Recruitment Awards, beating rivals who included BP International, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Accenture and law firms Allen and Overy and Lovells.

Nabarro's trainee resources manager Jane Drew said: "We have found in the past that this award is something a lot of students mention when they are applying for internships."

Nabarro runs a three-week summer work placement scheme, from which the Sheffield office aims to recruit all of its trainees. Ten applicants are selected to take part and at the end of the scheme, five students are offered training contracts. A 'buddy scheme' then pairs them with trainees to keep them involved while they complete their academic studies.

Following their professional exams, trainees start a two-year contract providing six four-month stints in different parts of the practice. "We receive a lot of positive feedback from people taking part in our scheme," said Sarah Meldrum, partner responsible for trainee recruitment and mentoring in the Sheffield office.
