More Doncaster train passengers

First Hull Trains has revealed passenger numbers have risen by almost 10 per cent in the last year.

The operator, which runs 90 services a week between London King’s Cross and Hull – all of which pick up at Doncaster - carried almost 800,000 passengers through 2012 –a 1,000 per cent increase on the numbers from the company’s first year of operation in 2000.

Keith Doughty, service delivery director, said: “We are entering 2013 in fine form with some plans in the pipeline which we hope will continue to deliver improvements to the service we deliver to our ever-increasing passenger numbers.

“Doncaster is an important station to us and, as the birthplace of the Flying Scotsman and the Mallard, the rail heritage the town boasts is never lost on us.”
