THINK you know all there is to know about Sheffield’s Ecclesall Road?

A new clue map has been released for those who fancy putting their knowledge to the test.

Do you know how many acres Whirlow Brook Park covers? Ever wondered how many ensuite bathrooms Whirlow Grange has got? Which business is now run out of Broomcroft House?

“Clue trails are a great way for famiies to learning while having fun together,” said Chris Keeling, the creator of the Ecclesall Clue Trail.

The writer, who has already penned a handful of books on the history of Sheffield, has lived near Ecclesall Road his whole life.

The 52-year-old said: “It’s a fantastic road, simply dripping with history, and I think it’s important that we know about the places we live.

“I was actually considering doing a sequel to one of my books, ‘A Photographic Journey Down Ecclesall Road’ when the idea for the map came to me instead.”

The map leads readers on a historical hunt down Ecclesall Road, gathering clues from landmarks and learning ancient titbits as they go.

Once all the clues have been collected, hunters can go online to check their answers and download certificates for completing the trail.

Chris, who produced, wrote, photographed and printed the map himself, said: “I think it would be great for visitors to the city to pick up a copy and explore this great road, stopping off at some of the great sights and restaurants on the way.

“I put a lot of time into the map, researching the history and making sure the clues I picked weren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

“I walked up and down the road dozens of times while working on this, chatting to people and taking photos.

“Everyone who’s tried it so far said it has great detail and forgotten history in it.

“I hope this will get people out there walking and enjoying it together.”

The Ecclesall Clue Trail can be bought from a number of shops, pubs and cafes across Sheffield.

* Whirlow Brook Park covers 39 acres, Whirlow Grange has 30 en-suite bathrooms and a residential nursing home is now run out of Broomcroft House.
