BALLOONS and a yellow ribbon decorated the opening day of a new convenience store which has created 20 permanent jobs.

The new M store, on Abbeydale Road, is a ‘local convenience’ version of supermarket Morrisons.

Bosses said the aim is to provide more fresh food than other convenience stores ‘at great value Morrisons prices’.

The store has created 20 permanent jobs for local people, some of whom were previously unemployed.

New store manager Ash Davies has worked for Morrisons for 14 years, and said: “Our M local gives people the chance to cook from scratch or find a ready meal even when they’re shopping late at night. We’re keen to hear feedback from local people so we hope they’ll give us a try.”

Morrisons believes it has spotted a gap for a convenience store that offers ‘more than just tins and toiletries’.

The shop will stock over 120 lines of fresh fruit and veg, meat and fish - all at the same price as larger Morrisons stores - alongside fresh coffee, pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice and bacon sandwiches, and there will also be a salad bar and deli. The store is open daily from 6am to 11pm.
