French flair for work on Sheffield housing estate

Callum Boyd, of Sanctuary housing maintenance team with French duo Alexis Charlet and Jeremy Albertini, who have been working on a placement in Shiregreen.

French apprentices found themselves in the heart of Shiregreen in Sheffield as they took part in an international maintenance exchange programme.

Alexis Charlet and Jeremy Albertini were among those who had made the trip across the Channel for a fortnight’s placement with the Sheffield estate’s management company, Sanctuary.

Alexis said: “The two weeks have been great and have really helped me get extra experience within the maintenance industry.”

The placements proved not only popular with the apprentices but with the organisers and volunteer organisations as well.

It is the first year that Sanctuary Maintenance has taken part in the programme.

Adrian Cheetham, Sanctuary Maintenance’s regional operations manager, said: “Before the three lads arrived the team were a little nervous as to what to expect, but as soon as the apprentices arrived it became very apparent that they were hard working, enthusiastic and determined to get stuck in.

“Everyone really enjoyed the two weeks and our apprentices have already asked when they can get on the scheme too. I would recommend the programme to other trade businesses in the area.”

The exchange was set up to create two-week onsite placements for maintenance apprentices throughout Europe.

Different trades are covered ranging from joinery and plumbing through to brickwork and plastering.

The placements were organised through training body Business and Education South Yorkshire.
