Don't give up on youngsters
Employers are being urged not to give up on the current generation of school-leavers and graduates as youngsters face a long tough summer of job hunting.
The call comes from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce after the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development reported that nearly half of the UK-based companies surveyed said that they were not planning to recruit young people leaving school or college this year.
Steve Edwards of Chamber Training in Chesterfield said: "Everyone deserves a start, and if we give up on this generation we will be creating problems for the future.
"Our experience is that there are firms who are taking on young people from school and benefiting from it.
"Getting work experience will be essential and we would ask that, even if they are not recruiting, that employers would look favourably on anyone seeking work experience."
