Companies sought for placements
The hunt is on for engineering companies in the Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and South Sheffield region who are willing to offer 40 day work placements to secondary school teenagers taking part in a Young Apprenticeship Programme in Engineering.
Training company NLT Training Services is looking for places for 25 pupils aged 14 and 15, from five Chesterfield area schools as part of an innovative programme that gives the youngsters the chance to gain practical experience in welding and fabrication, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as gaining work experience.
The programme leads to a qualification equivalent to 5 Grade A-C GCSEs and runs alongside the students' studies at school, leading to other GCSEs.
NLT apprentice coordinator, Brian Jamson, said: "The Young Apprenticeship Programme is an excellent way for pupils to obtain engineering qualifications, which will be invaluable should they choose to work in this industry.
"The 25 students had to undergo a rigorous assessment and interview in order to qualify for the programme and were selected from hundreds of hopefuls. We are looking forward to them starting the course in September."
